Regional Organizing Director, Sheet Metal Workers’ International Association
Richard “Cowboy” Compton, a 45-year member of the Sheet Metal Workers’ International Association, currently serves as the Regional Organizing Director for the Midwest. He also plays a vital role in the union’s education and Youth to Youth programs. As a member of Local 20, he worked as a journeyman until 1974 when he was elected Business Representative/Organizer, a position he held until 1986 when he became an International Organizer. Over the next 21 years, he has worked on organizing campaigns and negotiated collective bargaining agreements all over the United States. He has played a lead role in the recent organizing blitz in the state of Florida and the union’s new Top-Down organizing program.
