Joseph Sellers, Jr.

President & Business Manager, Local 19

Joseph Sellers, Jr. started his apprenticeship as a sheet metal worker in 1980. He became a journeyman four years later. In 1994, he was elected to his first term on the Local 19 Executive Board. Joe was appointed to the position of Training Coordinator in 1996, a position he held for 4 ½ years. He was then elected by the membership to the position of Business Representative. Two years later, Joe was unanimously appointed by the Local 19 Executive Board as President and Business Manager and in June 2003, he was overwhelmingly elected to this same position. In 2006, he ran unopposed and was re-elected to another 3 year term. During his tenure as President and Business Manager, he holds the following positions and offices:

Joe is active in civic, charitable and government affairs. After the recent death of Philadelphia Police Officer Charles Cassidy, he organized a fundraiser to benefit the officer’s family. In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, he gathered monetary donations as well as clothing and food to be sent to Louisiana. He sent some volunteers from his union to aid in the recovery. He has spent many hours working on community endeavors with the Piney Grove Baptist Church and Community Center and The Potter House Mission.
